We are very excited to be stocking the new sewing patterns from The Avid Seamstress, by sewing pattern designer Lisa Falconer. Lisa started The Avid Seamstress with a sewing blog, this lead to her teaching sewing classes. She said the beginners workshops were her favourite as she was often teaching people who had never used a sewing machine, it filled her with happiness to see people falling in love with sewing. Using her students valuable feedback she then started to think about creating her own sewing pattern range, after finding some funding she worked non stop for the best part of a year before releasing the new patterns.
The Avid Seamstress – Sewing Patterns
The City Trousers are slim shaped trousers – between skinny and cigarette shape. A narrow waistband with an invisible zip at the back makes the front of these trousers very flattering. these would look great in our Cotton Sateen.
The Gathered Dress is a lovely girl’s dress for ages 3-8 years. A T-shaped dress with the sleeves formed as part of the front/back which makes it really fun and easy to sew. It is a great beginner’s dress as the entire front piece, sleeve and half back is all cut as one piece! Perfect for our Natural Linen Little Bouquets fabric or any other linen fabric we stock.
The Sheath Dress has been made from our Viscose Rayon Shibori print! This is a gorgeous dress that you will want to make again and again in a variety of fabrics. The Sheath Dress is the perfect beginner’s pattern. Like the Gathered Dress, the entire front piece of The Sheath Dress including the sleeves is one piece cut on the fold and the back only has two pieces. It’s extremely flattering and we love it in the Viscose Rayon Challis.
The Raglan Dress is a gorgeous dress for girls aged 3-8 years with easy to set in raglan sleeves. The dress has an A-line shape with cute oversized pockets on the sides for the little girl in your life to stash her treasures. This would look adorable in our Embroidered Roses Wool Blend fabric
These patterns have been selling at Dragonfly Fabrics for a few weeks now and we’ve had an enormous amount of interest. The patterns are beautifully designed with the beginner dressmaker in mind. The instructions are easy to follow and there are guides to picking the right fabrics and taking your measurement correctly, which can be overwhelming when starting out. These patterns are presented in a beautiful string-tied envelope that includes the sewing pattern, printed on high quality pattern paper and a fabulous step-by-step instruction booklet with gorgeous images.
The Avid Seamstress has taken the time to create some very helpful tutorials on her blog, these include some great beginners projects like sewing your own make up bag, and tips like how to insert an invisible zip.
